Shades of Autumn

Fall is kind of a spiritual time...its a time of renewal when everything around us changes, and all of nature's beauty bursts' out in a celebration of rich & vibrant colors.

Re-treating to her secret place high above the hill top away from the crowds, she leans against her favorite tree to take a moment to reflect and enjoy the splendor of Autumn's vibrant colors and hues.

I wanted to do something outside the norm, so I chose to leave the bottom of the picture in grayscale to illustrate that Fall is made up not only of vibrant hues, but also dark grays. It also helps in making the Fall foliage the focal point of the image, which happens to also be her focal point. Her state of mind has turned off full perception of everything around her, except for this magical moment in nature.

Character designed with Poser, further enhancement & design done in Cinema 4D, rendered with Vray for C4D. Environment was created in Vue.

Leaves painted using Photoshop CS4. Her hair painted using Photoshop and Wacom tablet.

Tears of Pride

(WIP) Work in progress...

in the midst of humiliation and degradation
...there is a silent pride that is stronger than strength.

I wanted this image to have the look and feel of a painting- to kind of coincide with the time & era of slavery. Facial features, texture, body, and clothing done in Photoshop CS4, Wacom tablet, and Painter II. Base Poser head used as reference. The goal here was to present the character as having been thru a traumatic event. I wanted the head to be poised so that its still looking high or looking up to illustrate hope. Next I wanted to capture the great emotional restraint, that is fueled by pride.

...each new day that comes gives us a new start; a new slate.
In every life there's a place called "Redemption's Hill"

(Early morning light slowly comes up over Redemption's Hill.)

The big challenge with this image was the lighting of the scene. I didn't want the scene to be too bright...since the idea was to capture the first break of sunlight in the early morning. I struggled with this because that left little to no light on the hillside...so I had to place strategic lighting in various spots in order to make a few more plant & terrain details visible.
...nature is both powerful, majestic, beautiful, and mysterious. And at times speaks to us.

Scene created in Vue 7.5 Infinite.
Experimented with creating dramatic clouds & cloud layers. I wanted them to look not just dramatic, but also wispy and turbulent. The second task was creating a realistic ocean with the right texture, lighting, and reflection on its surface for a night scene.

Destiny's Hill is a place where we all aspire to reach once we've climbed that hill and found our place in life. When we have found our destiny its like coming to the top of a hill after a long journey, and feeling the warmth & beauty of mornings first light.

This scene was done entirely in Vue 7.5 Infinite. It is the early morning hours as the sun first comes up. I wanted to acheive as much realism as possible. Lighting this scene was a daunting task, particulary trying to simulate early morning light from the opposite side of the hill, but hopefully I pulled it off.
The final render was done in Widescreen.

Story:
Kneeling on the shore-line at the outer banks, Arial guards the path to the sacred sea from trespassers.

Design:
The atmosphere and landscape were created & designed using Vue 7.5. The female character was designed with Poser and further adjusted in Cinema 4D. Character's clothing and textures painted & applied using Cinema 4D's BodyPaint 3D. Additional image refinement was done in Photoshop. The final render was done in Widescreen format.

The landscape is designed as the shoreline to a beach...looking out toward the open sea. Small mounds are dotted along the shoreline. The mounds are filled with several different types of plant life and sea coral. The Sacred Sea is divided into two contrasting areas. On the left hand side of the horizon a storm is brewing, on the right side clear and peaceful skies.
