in the midst of humiliation and degradation
...there is a silent pride that is stronger than strength.


I wanted this image to have the look and feel of a painting- to kind of coincide with the time & era of slavery. Facial features, texture, body, and clothing done in Photoshop CS4, Wacom tablet, and Painter II. Base Poser head used as reference. The goal here was to present the character as having been thru a traumatic event. I wanted the head to be poised so that its still looking high or looking up to illustrate hope. Next I wanted to capture the great emotional restraint, that is fueled by pride.
